Question: You spoke about alcoholism. What can we do to help the young people who now have the problem with alcohol? Should we just hold the immaculate concept for them?

NOTE:
This answer was given on October 27, 2007, during the Shangra-la conference in England.

Answer from Jesus:

My beloved, there are many things that can and should be done to deal with a problem like this. Holding the immaculate concept is important but that is only the Alpha aspect. The Omega aspect is that action needs to be taken. The most important action would be, as I said in my discourse, to re-instate a sense of purpose and direction for life. This of course cannot be done overnight, but even so it is not entirely enough in itself. It is also necessary to increase the awareness of the effects of alcohol, demanding that more research be done on how it affects the brain, the development of the brain, especially of teenagers.

It is also necessary to speak out against alcoholism as a social problem, not only for the young but also for older people, and thereby help society recognize that this is a ticking bomb, because alcoholism is a very slow-acting poison that will inevitably create health problems, but not until many years down the road. And so, in Europe where many countries have a form of state-paid health care, surely it should be possible to help people see that if alcoholism is allowed to escalate uncontrolled, then there will come a point where the health care cost will ruin the economy of the nation.

So there are many ways in which the awareness can be raised, so that society recognizes that this is a problem that must be dealt with. Again, this is an example, my beloved, of the emperor's new clothes, where a problem has become so familiar to people that they cannot somehow step back from it and see that it has now gone beyond what it was in the past—and something different needs to be done about it. Because you cannot simply let things continue the way they have continued so far.

So, use whatever means you can, whatever means you feel are right for you individually to raise awareness of this issue. It could also be possible to start new youth organizations that would promote a healthier lifestyle, not as has been done so far in a religious context, but even in a far more universal context. For I can tell you that many among the young generation are indeed prepared at inner levels to accept a more holistic lifestyle. That is why you see a growing interest in an organic diet, in an environmental awareness among young people, even a political awareness. So you can take advantage of this to create youth organizations that would increase the awareness and make it a badge of honor for young people to abstain from alcohol or drugs or premarital sex, not because their religion dictates this but because you use all means available to help them understand that this is enlightened self-interest.

The Art of Non-war

This book is ingenious because it is written in such a universal way that it can appeal to just about anyone who is concerned about war and peace. It does not require the reader to believe in ascended masters or channeling but simply states teachings that have such an appeal to the heart that the spiritually aware people will feel it resonating with something in their beings.
