What
would Jesus say about modern Christianity?
Question for Jesus:
What
does Jesus think about modern Christianity?
Jesus:
This is a question that all sincere Christians, and many spiritually-minded
people who do not consider themselves to be Christians, should be thinking
about. And then, they should seek the answer inside their own hearts
where I can give it to them directly. However, I will give you some
general ideas that will give you a feel for what I, Jesus Christ, think
about the religion that claims to be representing me on earth.
First of all, I want to say that modern Christianity is so diversified
that it is almost impossible to make any statement without putting forth
a sweeping generalization that will inevitably be unjust to some people.
I clearly recognize that there are millions of people who are sincerely
and devoutly following my teachings to the best of their ability, given
the fragmented and distorted versions of my teachings that have been
made available to them.
Yet, I must tell you that the Christianity I see on earth today is so
far away from my original vision and intention that if I were not a
cosmic being who is centered in the peace of God, I would literally
weep at the thought of what might have been.
Had my true, inner teachings been made available to the people of earth,
this planet would already have entered a golden age of peace, prosperity
and progress. I came with a vision of such a golden age, and I still
hold that vision for earth. Yet, I must tell you that before such a
golden age could possibly manifest on earth, before my Father’s
kingdom could possibly descend into physical manifestation, many changes
are needed.
I would like to see those who claim to be my followers, those who claim
to be Christians, be the very first to sincerely consider and pursue
these changes. Yet, from a realistic viewpoint, I think this desire
is extremely unlikely to be fulfilled. The sad fact is that most orthodox
Christians have closed their minds so firmly that they are not likely
to be receptive to my inner teachings. Some people have allowed their
minds to become so firmly enveloped in false ideas and doctrines that
when I speak to them in their own hearts, they explain away my words
or even consider them to be the works of the devil. The sad fact is
that even I, Jesus Christ, have few options in terms of turning modern
Christianity into the movement that I desire it to be.
I you have studied my discourses in the Teachings
section, you already realize some of my concerns about Christianity.
The chief concern being, of course, that the path of individual Christhood
has been almost completely removed.
Yet, let us try to step back from the incredible diversity of the thousands
of churches and sects that claim to represent me, so that we can look
at the forest instead of being blinded by the trees.
A horizontal movement
The true problem with modern Christianity is that it has become what
I would call a horizontal movement. In my answers to the questions on
reincarnation, I gave you an example of how the scriptures contain a
few hints about reincarnation. I also told you how some theologians
have gone into a very contrived line of reasoning in order to explain
these passages without mentioning reincarnation.
If you will look at modern Christianity, you can find literally thousands
of examples of this kind of contrived, horizontal reasoning. It is completely
amazing to me how some people will go into the most intricate and artificial
arguments in order to prove the point that they have already decided
must be right. Why are they going through this effort to prove that
their idea is right when it would require less effort (albeit a different
kind of effort) to receive the living truth directly from me?
We have now come to a crucial point in these teachings. I will now explain
to you what is the very essence of the problem on planet earth. That
problem springs from the key characteristic of the carnal mind.
The very essence of the carnal mind is that it does not want to know
reality. It does not want to know truth. The carnal mind does not look
at evidence and then use that evidence to reason about what might be
the truth. The carnal mind creates an image, an idol, and it decides
that this must be the truth, this must be reality, this must be God.
Then, it looks for evidence that will support the image that it has
already decided must be true. It blatantly ignores, denies or explains
away any evidence that does not support its chosen idea.
When you look at modern Christianity, you will see this tendency at
work. In all fairness, this is not unique to Christianity. You can see
this tendency at work in every aspect of life on this planet. Yet, it
was my original hope that the very church that claims to represent me
would not fall prey to this tendency of the carnal mind.
When a soul identifies with the carnal mind, the soul makes a decision
about what is true. The soul creates an image, an idol, of what it wants
to be true. After a soul has accepted that false image, the soul refuses
to accept any evidence that does not support the image. Therefore, the
soul sees only evidence that supports the image, and so the soul becomes
a self-fulfilling prophecy. It becomes spiritually blind.
The money changers
This is the very reason why I repeatedly rebuked the authorities of
the Jewish church. This is why I overturned the tables of the money
changers who had turned my Father’s house into a place of business
and exploitation. These church authorities had gone away from the tradition
of the prophets. The idea of a prophet is that one human being raises
his or her consciousness to such a level that God can speak to the people
through that person. Therefore, God has a way to communicate with people
who have descended into the lower consciousness. God can bring a higher
truth, and if people choose to accept that truth, they have a lifeline
that allows them to climb to a higher state of consciousness.
The Jewish church had abandoned the tradition of the prophets. Therefore,
the church no longer had access to the living Word of God, and it was
left to interpret the Word of God that was delivered in the past. That
is precisely why the Pharisees and the Sadducees spent countless hours
in pointless arguments about this or that point of the law instead of
reaching for the living word and delivering it to the people.
I clearly saw the fallacy and the danger of this development, and that
is why I said that I came to fulfill the law and the prophets. How did
I intend to do this? By establishing a direct line of progressive revelation
through which I could speak the living Word of God even after I had
left physical embodiment. I intended to speak that living Word of God
directly through those of my followers who had walked the path of individual
Christhood and who had attained a level of Christhood that allowed them
to serve as my mouthpiece or my messenger.
If that tradition, which I truly established in the early years of the
Christian movement, had been kept alive, modern Christianity would have
had an alternative to the horizontal, relative squabbles about the interpretation
of scripture.
Bluntly speaking, who needs scripture when the living Word of God is
flowing in their midst? Who needs to interpret scripture, when they
can obtain a higher understanding directly from the source of knowledge,
the Christ consciousness.
The carnal mind has an infinite ability to create relative arguments
about this or that idea. Therefore, as long as Christians keep arguing
with the relativity of the carnal mind about this or that point in scripture,
they will remain stuck in their present level of division and conflict.
What is the alternative? The alternative to the horizontal reasoning
process of the carnal mind is the vertical process of reaching for the
Christ mind. As long as you are following the horizontal way of the
carnal mind (the way that seems right unto a human), you can keep searching
forever without finding the truth of God. Yet, at any moment the simple
act of reaching up for the higher way of the Christ consciousness will
allow you to go beyond the consciousness of argumentation and confusion.
Instead of the uncertainty and doubt of the carnal mind, you can achieve
the certainty and inner knowing of the Christ mind.
The living church and the living word
When I came to earth, I came to bring forth the true living church.
The living church must be based on the living word.
The living word can only be delivered through the Christ consciousness.
The Christ consciousness can only manifest in this world through an
individual human being.
I did not intend to become known as the only person to ever walk the
earth in the fullness of Christ consciousness. I am a spiritual teacher.
The only way for any teacher to be successful is to duplicate himself
by raising his students to the same level of consciousness as the teacher.
I am the teacher of Christ consciousness, and it was my intention to
duplicate myself and to have numerous other people walk the earth in
the fullness of their individual Christhood.
If no one follows my example, then I have failed as a teacher.
When you begin the process of attaining personal Christhood, you inevitably
begin to see beyond all of the outer divisions that spring from the
carnal mind.
You see unity behind diversity.
The living church that I came to bring was meant to be based on Christhood,
a state of consciousness that would allow people to escape the divisions
and conflicts found on earth. Thereby, my followers could come into
unity as the one body of God on earth.
I never intended my teachings to be the source of conflict and division.
I never wanted my followers, or those who claim to be my followers,
to sit in their different churches and think up relative arguments about
this or that point in the scriptures that were delivered 2,000 years
ago. Why would I want my followers to argue about scripture, when they
could instead receive the living word directly from me?
I do not want my followers to be divided. I do not want Christianity
to be split into numerous churches and sects that are competing with
each other or even warring with each other. Today, there are thousands
of churches who claim to represent me, and many of them claim to be
the only true church of Jesus Christ.
The one, true church
In reality, there need only be one church of Jesus Christ, and that
is the living church, the inner church, the path to personal Christhood.
I do not thereby mean that I want to see the emergence of one totalitarian
Christian church which will eradicate all other churches.
I have no problem with the existence of different churches.
My teachings are vast.
My teachings have many different aspects, and each aspect is designed
to appeal to a particular group of people. Therefore, I have no problem
with different groups of people, organized into different churches,
who perceive themselves as following a particular aspect of my teaching.
For example, one church might emphasize grace while another might emphasize
works.
Yet, the only way this division could possibly work is if all churches,
and the members and leaders of those churches, see themselves as being
part of one movement, namely the living church based on the living word.
I am a spiritual teacher; I am not a totalitarian dictator. My Father
in heaven is not a totalitarian dictator. Heaven has infinite variety,
and there is room for much variety on earth. Yet, in heaven everyone
realizes that the infinite variety originated from the ultimate unity
of God.
God has no need to see the formation of one church on earth. I have
no need to see the formation of one Christian church. I have a need
to see that all of the people who call themselves Christians and who
consider themselves to be my followers, will learn to look beyond the
outer divisions and differences and begin to walk the path to individual
Christhood. I want my true followers to see themselves as part of the
one body, the undivided body, of God on earth.
The entire purpose of my coming to this planet was to clear the way
for the descent into full physical manifestation of my Father’s
kingdom. That is why I said: “I have come that all might have
life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” God’s
kingdom is the abundant life.
God’s kingdom on earth
God’s desire for this planet is to remove the current imperfection
and suffering and to establish his kingdom on earth. God desires to
see planet earth manifest the perfection that is already manifest in
the spiritual world. In other words, God wants the earth to be his kingdom
here below as heaven is his kingdom above.
As above, so below.
That is why I said: “Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father
in heaven is perfect.”
My original desire for the Christian movement was to see it become a
forerunner for bringing God’s kingdom into physical manifestation.
Therefore, I desire my followers to be the Christed ones below as I,
and my spiritual brothers and sisters, are the Christed ones above.
I desire my followers to be part of the universal brother/sisterhood
of light and to walk the earth as representatives of the cosmic Christ.
This is the vision I held for Christianity. I still hold that vision
for anyone who dares to follow my true teachings. Yet, as I have told
you numerous times in these teachings, the true key to bringing about
that goal is the free-will decisions made by those on earth.
I am Jesus Christ. I am a cosmic being which such power that you would
scarcely be able to fathom my power. Yet, I cannot use my powers on
this earth unless I am authorized to do so by those in embodiment.
I need those who are willing to be my hands and feet.
I need those who are willing to be the body of God on earth.
However, to become a member of the body of God, you must overcome the
carnal mind and its tendency to create divisions and conflicts where
no divisions and conflicts exist.
I can accept that different groups of Christians emphasize different
aspects of my teachings. Yet, I cannot accept that these groups see
themselves as being in conflict with other groups of Christians or with
other groups of religious people.
I desire to see you make a sincere effort to leave behind the consciousness
of the carnal mind that causes you to see a conflict between yourself
and what you conceive to be other people. Those other people are not
your enemies. Behind the outer facade, they are your spiritual brothers
and sisters. They are my spiritual brothers and sisters.
That is why I said: “If you have done it onto the least of these
my little ones, you have done it onto me.”
That is why I told you to love your neighbor as yourself and to love
others as I have loved you and still love you.
No amount of theological arguments could possibly bring God’s
kingdom into manifestation on earth. Yet, even a small amount of hearts
united in love can become the open door for that kingdom to descend
into this dark world.
My flame of unconditional love
I am Jesus Christ, and I come to this planet with the flame of unconditional
love.
I have loved you unconditionally, and I still love you unconditionally.
Please set aside time to go deep inside your heart and allow yourself
to feel my unconditional love for you.
Allow that unconditional love to transform you and raise you out of
the relativity and conditionality of the carnal mind.
Accept that transformation, and as you feel that transformation reach
a critical level, allow the inner transformation to be expressed in
your outer actions.
Allow my unconditional love for you to fill your heart and then spill
over into your thoughts, feelings, words and actions. Then, dare to
express that unconditional love towards everyone whom you meet.
Allow your heart to become the cup that runneth over with God’s
unconditional love.
The key to bringing God’s kingdom to earth is to create unity
between heaven and earth.
To create unity, we must overcome division.
The only way to overcome division is to embrace God’s unconditional
love.
As long as there are conditions in your love, there can be no unity
between you and your God. When you accept that God’s love is unconditional,
all outer divisions fade away. They are simply consumed by the all-consuming
fire of unconditional, divine love.
I am that unconditional love, and I am offering that unconditional love
to you. Will you accept my love?
