Question: I have several questions regarding the answer to a previous question on soul division. This is the first question:
I can readily understand that the Atman can divide itself infinitesimally from its ascended state in order to expand its consciousness. The Atman is an aspect of God, and it is God's nature to expand.
However, I do not believe that the individual unascended soul ever divides when things are going well and it is secure on the Path. It is only when things are not going well, I believe, that the unascended soul would fragment. These soul fragments have 2 characteristics in common: a) They retain the consciousness and feelings of their original soul, and b) They are wounded. I believe both these characteristics make it impossible for a fragment to become a second soul entirely separate from the first.

Answer from Jesus:

I understand that you have difficulty with these concepts. As I said in my answer to the original question, this is a complex topic that is difficult to explain to people who are still in embodiment and therefore naturally tend to think in linear terms. When you are in a physical body, you experience, through that body, that you are separated from other physical bodies. This makes it easy to reason that your soul is also separated from a larger whole.

As Kim will readily attest, he was well aware that there is much more to be said about the soul than what was given in the answer to the previous question, and he also realized it was difficult for him to grasp my teachings on this topic. When answering a question, there is always a fine line between giving too much teaching and giving too little teaching. Because people are in such different states of consciousness, it is virtually impossible to give a teaching that is optimal for everyone.

Let me explain a little further about the reality of the soul. The first thing we need to clarify is that the word “soul” is often used to describe more than one thing. I readily admit that on this website and in the books I sometimes use the word soul in a way that is not completely precise. The reason being that many people see the soul as that part of their beings which inhabits the physical body but is beyond the body. They do not recognize any individual parts of the soul.

If you want to be more precise, the term soul should be used only to refer to that part of your being which descends into the material universe and takes on a physical body. As explained in many places throughout this website, there is more to your being than just the soul. The core of your identity is your I AM Presence. This is where your unique individuality as a spiritual being is anchored. You also have a Christ self which serves as a mediator between your I AM Presence and your soul. So one might say that the totality of your being includes your soul, your Christ self and your I AM Presence. I would like to refer to the totality of your being as your lifestream.

When your lifestream first came into being, it was created by your spiritual parents. They created your I AM Presence which is a spiritual being that allows you to experience and act in the higher vibrations of the spiritual realm. Your I AM Presence is not something that is completely separate from or independent of your spiritual parents. Your spiritual parents literally created your I AM Presence out of their own beings. Therefore, your I AM Presence has many of the characteristics of your spiritual parents but in a unique combination that makes you an individual lifestream.

As you grow on the spiritual path, it is important to contemplate that your Presence is not separated from your spiritual parents. You exist within their sphere of consciousness, and they exist within a larger sphere. Ultimately all lifestreams exist within the sphere of the Atman. In other words, a new lifestream is not separated from the Atman; it exists within the Atman. When your lifestream was created, the Atman literally became more through you. Therefore, God becomes more, God transcends himself, when you are created and when you grow and transcend yourself.

You are still a part of the greater whole of your spiritual parents, who can trace their origin back to the Atman. In Vedic literature, the Atman is called the universal soul. This is no longer the best term in the Western world, where the soul has become known as that part of you which inhabits the body. The Atman really is the universal presence of God, which divided itself into two original lifestreams, the Father/Mother God. These then divided themselves into others and so forth until you had a multitude of lifestreams. You might say that these lifestreams form a kind of pyramid that goes all the way back to the original presence of God at the very top. However, the Presence of God encompasses the totality of the pyramid, and it grows when new lifestreams are added to the pyramid.

Your lifestream has free will and can decide that it wants to experience the material universe and help co-create this world. Your I AM Presence is made of energies that vibrate at such high frequencies that it cannot descend into the material universe. So your Presence creates the soul out of its own substance and being. In other words, your soul is not technically created by your spiritual parents. Your soul was created by your I AM Presence as a vehicle for descending into the material universe.

As explained in my answer to the question on schizophrenia, your soul is created with a crystalline structure of electronic energy. I compared that structure to a metal cage. When your soul is created, the structure is filled with energy, or soul substance. This energy fills the structure so that there is no void in the structure. However, this energy is not very dense or intense. When the soul descends into a physical body, it has the opportunity to increase the density or intensity within its structure. As you wisely use the energies that stream from your I AM Presence, and as you learn from your experiences in the material world, you strengthen the substance contained in the structure of your soul. This makes your soul stronger and more impenetrable, so that it is not as easily affected by the denser energies of the material universe. Your soul literally becomes so filled with light that it becomes like a sun that radiates light without taking in any lower energies.

Because of the unfortunate conditions currently found on planet Earth, it is quite common that many souls fragment or divide before they have a chance to grow strong enough to avoid losing some of their soul substance. In my answer to the question on schizophrenia, I attempted to explain this in a very basic manner by saying that when the soul experiences trauma or shock, it can lose some of the soul substance contained in the crystalline structure. If the soul fragments into smaller pieces, this is all that happens. Some of the energy inside the soul is forced out in many tiny fragments.

However, if the soul divides into two larger parts, the picture is a bit more complex. What actually happens in this situation is that the soul part that splits off has enough substance or mass that it takes with it a replica of the crystalline structure of the soul. This does not mean that the crystalline structure itself is broken up. It means that a copy of the crystalline structure is created. You have no doubt heard about the concept of a hologram, in which each part of the hologram has a replica of the entire hologram. This is similar to what happens when the soul divides. Each part of the soul has a replica of the crystalline structure of the soul, only the structures of both parts have now become weakened in their intensity.

So what you see now is that instead of one soul, you have two weaker replicas. Yet because each replica still contains the entire crystalline structure, it is possible that each of them can continue to gather enough soul substance that they eventually can again become whole souls. Obviously, these two soul parts still share the same I AM Presence.

You say that the two parts of the soul still contain the consciousness and feelings of the original soul. This is not correct. The consciousness, feelings and memories of the soul are contained or stored in the soul substance inside the crystalline structure. When a part of the soul splits off, it takes with it some of the soul’s consciousness, feelings and even memories. This partly explains why some people cannot remember a traumatic experience. The reason being that the memory of the experience is stored in a soul part that split off. If that soul part is returned, then the memory will return with it.

However, some soul memories, especially from past lives, are stored in the I AM Presence (technically speaking the storage place of such memories is sometimes called the Causal Body), and they can therefore be accessed by both soul parts. You see, the connection to the I AM Presence is maintained through the crystalline structure. That is why smaller soul fragments have no such connection, and therefore they cannot grow on their own. Such fragments must me rescued by the soul.
Let me comment on the following remark:

The Atman is an aspect of God, and it is God's nature to expand.

It is correct that the Atman is an aspect of God, but so is your soul. Everything that was ever created, everything that exists, is an aspect of God. It is God's nature to expand, and therefore it is also the nature of each soul to expand. It is only the fall into a lower state of consciousness that makes souls see themselves as being separated from God. This is also the illusion that makes it difficult for them to understand the true nature of the soul as being part of a larger whole. As explained in The Inner Path of Light, this sense of separation is anchored in the human ego, and to overcome it, you must let go of the ego and unite with your Christ self, which sees its connection to God.

When a soul first descends into the material universe, it is given certain talents from the I AM Presence. This is the energy or substance that fills the crystalline structure of the soul. As I tried to explain in my parable about the talents, every soul is intended to multiply its talents. As you keep multiplying the energy, you eventually fill the crystalline structure of the soul to a critical level of intensity. If you compare this to my discourse on the levels of spiritual attainment, you might say that as a soul ascends to higher levels, the underlying mechanism is that the crystalline structure of the soul becomes filled with a higher intensity of spiritual energy. The structure itself also becomes strengthened in this process, and this allows more light from the Presence to flow through the soul.

The highest level of spiritual development that I describe is that of a master. This represents a soul who actually radiates energy and therefore is the open door between Heaven and Earth. This then relates to your remark that an unascended soul does not divide when things are going well. The simple fact is that when the soul has attained mastery, the next logical step is that the soul transcends itself. As a result of this self-transcendence, the soul can choose to create an extension of itself. This can be done while the soul is still in a physical body or after it ascends. The critical distinction here is not whether the soul is ascended but whether the soul has attained spiritual mastery. It is, however, by far the most common that souls do not divide themselves until they have ascended.

Perhaps it would be helpful here to add the distinction that when the soul divides of its own free will and as the result of spiritual mastery, we should call it soul creation instead of soul division. We could then say that soul creation is the result of a voluntary process based on wholeness and mastery. The soul that is created is a whole soul, although it does not have the intensity of energy of the original soul. Soul division is an involuntary process that fragments the soul and creates two wounded souls, meaning that they both have voids that make them vulnerable to the invasion of lower energies.

Question: According to the following teaching, a soul is always created by spiritual parents and given by them an I AM Presence:
"When your spiritual parents created your lifestream, they created your I AM Presence. This is the part of you that anchors the unique individuality with which you were endowed by your spiritual parents. It is called the I AM Presence because it anchors your individuality and makes you who you are. It gives you the ability to say, "I AM!"
How does this correlate with the teaching that a soul can be created simply by dividing--in a kind of cloning process--out from an unascended soul? How does the second soul experience the joy and love of having been begotten by its twin flame parents?

Jesus: As explained above, I am not here saying that your spiritual parents created your soul. I am saying that they created your lifestream.

The image that the soul divides in a cloning process is not the best image to use because cloning implies the creation of a carbon copy. This is not the case. Even if the soul divides as the result of trauma, each soul part will share the original crystalline structure, but they will have different contents. Therefore, they are slightly different to begin with. As they have different experiences in the material world, they become even more different.

This is why I used the image of one cell growing and becoming a complete human body. The cells that are created from the original cell have different functions, and therefore they are not clones of the original cell. If they were, the cells could not have the many different functions that are necessary for a complete body.

Because each soul part has a replica of the crystalline structure, it has a connection to the I AM Presence. The memories of the lifestream being created by its spiritual parents are stored in the Presence and can therefore be accessed by each soul part.

Question: According to the teachings through the Summit Lighthouse, all souls are created out of the great ovoid with a counterpart of opposite polarity. How does a soul that has separated out from another soul acquire a twin flame in the process?

Jesus: As I attempt to explain on this website, and especially in Save Yourself, a spiritual teaching is always a reflection of the state of consciousness of the people who are the recipients of that teaching. When a teaching is released, we also consider the level of consciousness of humankind as a whole. When the teaching about twin flames was released through the Summit Lighthouse, it was determined that humankind was still so deeply affected by a linear way of thinking that we could release only a basic understanding of the concept of twin flames.

That is why we presented a very linear concept with a one-on-one relationship between to twin flames and one I AM Presence. In reality, the picture is more complex, or rather less linear. For example, it is quite possible that one I AM Presence can create more than one set of twin flame souls. A particular lifestream might choose to have many souls in embodiment at the same time in order to accelerate its learning process or its service to life. When you are in physical embodiment, this can be difficult to fathom, but the I AM Presence does not have the mental limitations of a soul in embodiment, and it has no problem working through multiple souls at the same time.

Let us look at a scenario in which an I AM Presence creates a set of twin flames that take embodiment on Earth. One of these souls holds the masculine polarity, and the other holds the feminine polarity. Yet each soul has both masculine and feminine qualities, and therefore each soul has the potential to become complete in and of itself by attaining spiritual mastery. The consequence is that one of the souls can ascend before the other soul has attained mastery. In fact, it is possible that one twin flame can go through the second death after its twin flame has ascended.

Before it ascends, the soul is not yet permanent or immortal. That is why an unascended soul can eventually run out of time and be erased through the second death. Let us now imagine that to twin flames attain mastery and ascend back to God. These souls will naturally follow their divine nature and expand or self-transcend. They can therefore create a new lifestream, a new I AM Presence, out of their own substance and being. This new Presence can then create one or several souls that descend to the material universe.

Now let us imagine that one of the embodied twin flame souls is divided through trauma. When a soul is still unascended and is divided through an involuntary process, a new soul is not created. The soul is divided, and because both soul parts contain a replica of the crystalline structure of the original soul, there is no need for a new I AM Presence. In other words, the soul part that splits off does not acquire a new I AM Presence; it is still tied to the original Presence. Likewise, the soul part is still tied to the same twin flame. I realize this runs contrary to a linear view of twin flames, yet I must, once again, emphasize that reality is spherical and not linear.

Because each soul part contains a replica of the crystalline structure, it is possible that each part can eventually acquire enough soul substance that it becomes whole and attains mastery. It is therefore possible that the two soul parts can ascend separately or that one soul part ascends and the other continues to reembody. However, the most common scenario is that as one soul part attains mastery, it will attract the other soul part to it and the two parts will then become integrated into a whole soul.

The next logical question is what happens if two soul parts continue to evolve separately and ascend as whole souls. In that case, you have two ascended souls that share the same I AM Presence. Even though the souls share the same crystalline structure, they have had different experiences in the world, and therefore the soul substance within the structure is different for each soul. After the souls ascend, there are several possible scenarios. One scenario is that one or both souls can merge completely with the Presence and give up a separate sense of identity. The souls can also merge into one soul. Another scenario is that the souls can maintain a separate sense of identity.

To understand this, you might need to contemplate that it is only the human ego that gives a soul the sense of being separated from the I AM Presence. As the soul attains mastery, it lets go of the ego and the ego finally dies. When the soul ascends, it literally becomes one with the I AM Presence, but it can choose to maintain the sense of identity that was built during its many lifetimes in the material universe. One might say that the ascended soul becomes a separate I AM Presence - a separate sense of identity - within the original I AM Presence. This explains why some ascended masters can appear to people as separate masters, even though they are actually part of the same larger whole.

There is a threshold between the material world and the spiritual world. While you are below that threshold, you think in linear terms and see everything in terms of separation. As you rise above that threshold, the sense of separation fades away, and the linear way of thinking goes with it. Instead, you now think spherically, and you see that even though there are many individual lifestreams, they are all connected in the grand web of life. I and my Father are one, I and my Mother are one.

Obviously, there is more to be said about this topic, and it will come forth as people make themselves ready by stretching their minds with the new concepts.
