from Jesus:
In my discourse on the levels
of spiritual
evolution I explain that a number of souls on this planet have attained
a high degree of spiritual mastery. I also explain that it is difficult
to set an outer standard for how such Masters should be acting. Such
souls will fulfill the needs of the hour, and they might sometimes have
to do things that seem extreme based on normal behavior.
The reason so many spiritual masters take a vow of silence is that they
have taken on the role of holding the spiritual balance for humankind
and the Earth. Speaking is an outgoing activity, and it causes your
energies to flow outward. Therefore, if you want to maintain the highest
possible degree of inner concentration, it is highly beneficial for
you to refrain from speaking. There are indeed advanced souls who never
speak to anyone. One might think that this does little to raise the
consciousness of humankind, but the opposite is true.
You will recall my statement, “And I, if I be lifted up from the
earth, will draw all [men] unto me” [John 12:32]. The basic fact
of life is that all human beings are connected at deeper levels of consciousness.
Therefore, when some people in physical embodiment raise their consciousness
to a very high level, they will pull up the consciousness of the rest
of humanity. However, until the rest of humanity are able to maintain
a certain level of Christ consciousness, it is necessary for these advanced
souls to constantly maintain their level of consciousness. If they were
to lose their state of concentration, the magnetic pull on the rest
of humanity would lessen, and therefore people would instantly start
sliding into a lower state of consciousness. That is why such souls
do not speak to or interact with other people.
Obviously, not all advanced souls are meant to take this approach. Some
of them hold the balance in many other ways, and some of them do indeed
serve as teachers who give spiritual teachings whenever they are given
an opportunity.
One of the functions of the advanced souls is to show other human beings
that it is possible to overcome the limitations that most people accept.
In other words, certain advanced souls choose to live their lives in
such a way that they demonstrate that there is a different way to live
than what is accepted by most people. Walking around and hugging everyone
is just one way of doing this, as is allowing people to nail you to
a cross and then concquering death.
The reason the Buddha stressed the middle way was that he realized that
the relative extremes are not the true path to spiritual progress. As
I have explained throughout this website, the carnal mind causes people
to become polarized towards one of two relative extremes. Many people
do indeed waste all of their energy and attention on endeavors that
do not contribute to their spiritual growth but simply contribute to
maintaining an unbalanced state of mind. Therefore, the Buddha wanted
to set forth the example that by consciously striving to avoid these
relative extremes, a soul can make much swifter progress toward a higher
state of consciousness. So it is indeed extremely important for all
evolving souls to strive for balance in their spiritual endeavors.
You mention souls that set out on the spiritual journey and commit suicide
because they cannot complete the journey. These souls are not advanced
souls. They are, in fact, immature souls who are trying to take Heaven
by force. They subscribe to the belief that by doing certain outer actions,
they will automatically attain spiritual progress. So by taking their
actions to the extreme, they should experience extremely quick progress.
This is indeed what you see in some extremist religious groups whose
rituals have no balance whatsoever. Such souls ascribe to the belief
in an automatic salvation. This is a fallacy. This is taking Heaven
by force. This is the way that seems right unto a man, but the ends
thereof are the ways of the death of the soul [Proverbs 16:25].
You see, the real key to spiritual progress is not outer rituals or
outer accomplishments. The true road to spiritual progress is an inner
path, and you will not attained a high level of spiritual consciousness
until you become non-attached to outer results and practices. You must
cultivate the non-attachment that the Buddha and I advocated.
Let me also say that once a soul has achieved a high degree of spiritual
mastery, the soul does not necessarily have to remain balanced in all
things. At that advanced level of consciousness, a soul can indeed engage
in certain types of extreme behavior. Yet when the soul has reached
Christ consciousness, such behavior will not cause a soul to lose its
sense of harmony and balance. That is why you see some Masters who engage
in behavior that would be too extreme for students at lower levels of
the spiritual path.
