The
open-minded Christian
The
Bible makes it clear that many orthodox people rejected Jesus because
he presented new teachings that did not fit within the context of their
traditional doctrines. Only people with an open mind could recognize
Jesus and accept his teachings. The scribes and the Pharisees were not
open-minded, and in their arrogance they rejected the Living Christ
when he stood before them in the flesh. You realize the importance of
having an open mind and avoiding the arrogance of thinking your religious
teaching can tell you everything there is to know about God, Jesus and
spirituality.
One might say that Jesus came to renew religion and to pull the people
of his time out of their mental boxes, their stifled, rigid approach
to religion. Perhaps it is the role of the Living Christ to always pull
people out of their rigidity, to challenge them to expand their understanding
and to think outside the box?
When you look at Christianity today, you probably see clearly that many
modern Christians have become as rigid and stifled as the people who
rejected Jesus. Thus, would it be far-fetched that Jesus would want
to pull today’s Christians out of their rigidity by challenging
them with new teachings?
Would it be improbable that humankind are now ready for a more advanced
understanding of Jesus’ inner teachings than what could be given
2,000 years ago? After all, the Bible makes it clear that Jesus gave
teachings at at least two different levels,
But
without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone,
he expounded all things to his disciples. (Mark 34:34)
Is
it possible that in today's world, people are ready for the advanced
teachings that Jesus back then could give only to his disciples? This
would be supported by Jesus’ own words,
I
have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
(John 16:12)
Are
you open to the possibility that Jesus – who claimed to have all
power in Heaven and in Earth (Matthew 28:18) – could possibly
find a way to release teachings for today’s Christians?
Since you are an open-minded Christian, you probably realize that the
Christian religion has not been above the political power plays found
in any field of human endeavor. You might realize that certain things
were taken out of the scriptures for political reasons by the early
church fathers. Does it seem unlikely that Jesus would want to correct
the errors made in past centuries and restore his true teachings, making
them available to a modern audience?
If you are open to any of these ideas, this website has much to offer
you. You might start by reading the following teachings:
