Religion
Is a Form of Communication Between the Spiritual and the Material Realms
By
establishing a universal world view and a universal approach to religion,
we have accomplished a very significant feat. We have now set the stage
for a new view of religion, a view that can help us overcome religious
conflicts and divisions.
By Kim Michaels
Let us summarize
some of our findings:
- There
is a spiritual realm above the material universe.
- The human
mind has the ability to tune in to the vibrations of the spiritual
realm.
- Most
people are not using this ability, and as a result they feel separated
from their spiritual source.
- It is
this sense of separation that causes conflicts (religious and otherwise)
between people.
- To create
unity, we need to help people recognize the underlying unity behind
all people and religions and then help them reconnect to their source
through direct experience.
This leads
us to an important conclusion. As mentioned earlier, almost every religion
contains the idea that we humans have descended into a lower estate
than we were meant to experience. We can now see that what has happened
is that we have descended into a lower state of consciousness. In this
state of consciousness, we no longer experience a connection to our
spiritual source and feel separated from that source. The conclusion
is that the true purpose of religion is to help us reconnect to our
source. This conclusion can tell us something very important about religion.
Religion as communication
Religion is a form of communication between the spiritual realm and
the material realm. Religion is given to us from the spiritual realm
for the purpose of reminding us about our source and for helping us
reconnect to that source.
The logical question is, “Who or what is communicating with us
from the spiritual realm?” Most religions contain the idea that
there is one or several intelligent beings abiding in the spiritual
realm. Based on the fact that everything is energy, this is not a far-fetched
idea. We humans are intelligent, self-conscious beings living in the
material realm. We express ourselves through a physical body, but every
spiritual teaching on this planet tells us that we are more than the
body. We have already talked about the existence of a higher self which
is a part of our total consciousness or being.
The next logical step is to consider that there could be intelligent,
self-conscious beings who do not need a physical body. Such beings might
reside in the spiritual realm and perform various functions with a “body”
made of the high-frequency energies of the spiritual realm. Many religions
talk about a variety of such beings that have different functions.
We might then consider that one of the functions of spiritual beings
is to serve as spiritual teachers for humankind. In other words, there
might be a group of spiritual beings who have been assigned the task
of helping us raise our consciousness and reconnect to our source. As
a prime tool for doing this, our spiritual teachers have given us a
number of different religions. This idea leads to another important
possibility.
One body of God in Heaven
We have seen that we human beings have descended into a lower state
of consciousness in which we see ourselves as separated from our source.
This is what gives rise to division and conflict.
It seems logical to assume that the spiritual beings in Heaven do not
see themselves as separated from their source. Because their minds are
not trapped by the lower vibrations of the material universe, they have
no problem seeing the connection to their source. Therefore, they also
see that their spiritual brothers and sisters came from the same source.
In other words, it seems reasonable to assume that we do not find the
same state of consciousness in Heaven that we find on Earth. Spiritual
beings are not divided, and there are no conflicts between them. This
opens up the possibility of a universal brother/sisterhood, a group
of spiritual beings functioning as the one body of God.
This idea has some stunning implications. One is that all true religion
is given from the same group, or body, of spiritual beings. Therefore,
all religions have the same purpose and it seems quite logical that
in Heaven there are no conflicts between various religions. This leads
to another logical question.
Why are there so many different religions?
The logical answer is that there are many different people on planet
Earth, and they are in many different states of consciousness. If religion
is a form of communication from the spiritual realm, it follows that
this communication must speak a language that people can understand.
When you consider the vast cultural differences between various groups
of people, it seems likely that one religion simply cannot appeal to
every human being on this planet. Therefore, we might consider that
our spiritual teachers give a specific religion to a specific group
of people. The goal is to help these people raise their awareness and
their level of consciousness.
The consequence is that any religion is adapted to the level of consciousness
of the people to whom the religion was given. This is a stunning conclusion,
because we now see why there are so many different religions and why
it is meaningless to fight over which religion is the best one or the
only true one.
If religion is simply a tool for raising people’s consciousness,
it follows that the best tool for a specific group of people is the
tool that is adapted to their current level of consciousness and has
the best potential for helping them rise above that level. In other
words, one size simply does not fit all. Different people need different
religions!
Our spiritual teachers
Consider for a moment the situation faced by our spiritual teachers.
When you look at the amazing diversity found on Earth, it becomes obvious
that if you want to reach people with a spiritual message, you must
take an individualized approach. To reach a specific group of people,
you must speak a language that they can understand. You must use spiritual
concepts that they can grasp with their current level of consciousness.
You must also consider what people are willing to accept.
The reason we are discussing the topic of religious conflicts is that
people are very sensitive about religion. Most people are not willing
to look at ideas that go too far beyond their current beliefs. This
might present an interesting challenge for a spiritual teacher seeking
to help people raise their consciousness. Such a teacher might be limited
by people’s current beliefs and unable to give them ideas that
are too far beyond those beliefs.
This leads to the conclusion that a specific religion might never have
been meant to give a final, complete or infallible doctrine. A religion
might never have been meant to be the ultimate religion. It might be
a measured response to a crises. It might be adapted to a group of people
in a certain state of consciousness. The purpose is not to give the
ultimate truth, but to help these people grow to a higher level of awareness
in which they can receive a more advanced spiritual teaching.
This conclusion opens up vast opportunities for resolving the factors
that we earlier defined as the causes of religious
conflict.
We will look at each of these factors on the following
page.
