The
Energetic World View
The discovery that everything is made from energy has profound implications
for how we look at ourselves, God and the world. It is high time that
we begin to understand and acknowledge these implications.
B y Kim Michaels
We have seen
that everything is made from energy. Energy is a form of vibration,
and it moves as waves. A wave can be described through several characteristics,
and one of them is frequency. As an example, let us look at visible
light.
When you see the color red, your eyes are seeing light waves that vibrate
at a certain frequency. Red light has the lowest frequency that your
eyes can detect. Violet light has the highest frequency that your eyes
can see, and the other colors have frequencies between these two extremes.
In other words, the human eye can detect only frequencies that fall
within a certain spectrum.
Based on our sensory perception, we might think that there is nothing
beyond visible light. Yet science tells us otherwise. There are types
of light waves that vibrate at lower frequencies than red light, such
as infra-red. And there is light, such as ultraviolet light, that has
higher frequencies than violet light. In short, there are many types
of energy that cannot be detected by the human senses. Yet these energies
are as real as visible light.
A continuum of vibrations
How many energy frequencies are there? We simply don’t know yet
because there is a limit to what type of frequencies can be detected
by current scientific instruments. We have, however, already detected
a wide range of frequencies, and we might talk about a continuum of
vibrations. We can’t rule out that there could be energies that
cannot be detected by science, so there is no way of telling where this
continuum might end.
The significance of these scientific facts is that we need to develop
a new world view. Materialistic science claims that there is nothing
beyond the material universe. Yet we now see that science itself has
brought this view into question. If there is a continuum of energy frequencies,
then it is quite plausible that by going to higher and higher frequencies,
we might eventually reach the edge of the material world.
What lies beyond that edge are frequencies that belong to another world,
or another realm. Could we possibly say that there is a spiritual world
beyond the material world?
When we take a closer look at Einstein’s theory of relativity,
we see that it has brought science to the brink of recognizing what
spiritual people have been saying for millennia, namely that there is
a spiritual world beyond the material world. Obviously, we do not (yet)
have scientific proof that such a world exists. However, we can say
that the existence of spiritual, or high-frequency, energies is in complete
accord with current scientific knowledge.
Overcoming the dualistic world view
When we understand the implications of scientific knowledge, we must
also reconsider the world view held by many religious people. It is
a fact that many religious people have a world view that is influenced
by the physical senses and therefore based on duality. Just as scientists
believed matter and energy were separate elements, many religious people
believe Heaven and Earth are fundamentally different. We now see that
this might not be the case.
When we realize that everything is made of energy and that different
energies are set apart only by their vibration, we realize that both
the material world and the spiritual world are made of energy. So the
only difference between the material world and the spiritual world is
a difference in the vibration of the energy that makes up the two worlds.
In other words, both worlds are made from the same “stuff,”
namely energy.
This is echoed in many religious scriptures. For example, the Bible
states, "Without him was not anything made that was made."
Yet most religious people still hold on to a dualistic view of Heaven
and Earth as being separated by some impenetrable barrier. It is this
dualistic world view that we might need to question.
Unity behind diversity
Instead of holding on to the dualistic world view, we need to start
looking for an underlying unity. Science has shown us this principle
in the material world. To our senses, the myriad of forms in the material
world appear very different. There is seemingly no connection between
an amoeba and a tall mountain. Yet science tells us that both are made
from a limited number of smaller building blocks, called molecules.
And though there are many types of molecules, the molecules are made
from a limited number (108 by current count) of atoms.
For a time, scientists believed all atoms were made from only three
elementary particles. Today, physics tells us that elementary particles
are not small billiard balls but a form of energy. In other words, when
we go behind surface appearances, there are no impenetrable barriers.
Everything is made from the same stuff, namely energy, and the energies
we can see are simply a small spectrum of a larger continuum. This larger
whole is made of a potentially unlimited number of frequencies.
When we transfer this to the topic of Heaven and Earth, we see that
there might not be an impenetrable barrier between the two. Many religions
say that everything is made from God’s substance. For example,
the Bible says that the first act of creation was the statement, “Let
there be light!” We might consider that God first created a basic
substance which could be molded into any conceivable form.
God then molded this substance by causing it to vibrate, and it is the
type of vibration that determines what form is taken on by the basic
substance. God might have created the spiritual world from energy that
vibrates at frequencies above a certain threshold. The material world
is created from the same basic substance as the spiritual world, this
world simply vibrates at slower frequencies.
Finding a basis for religious unity
Why is this important? Because if we are to overcome religious conflict,
we need to find some kind of underlying unity that can connect people
from many different religions.
We now see a potential for establishing this unity and connection. If
God created everything from the same basic substance, then we must all
be created from that substance. In other words, all of us came from
the same source. So despite our outer differences, there is a fundamental,
underlying connection between us. Many spiritual leaders have pointed
to this unity. For example, Jesus said, “Inasmuch as you have
done it unto the least of these my little ones, you have done it unto
me.”
We now see the potential for establishing a new type of unity that reaches
beyond what the world has seen up to this point. Throughout history,
many people have seen the need to establish greater unity on Earth.
Yet many of these people believed the only way to create unity was to
remove differences. Consequently, they attempted to make their religion
the only true religion by eradicating all others. Or they attempted
to purify the race as a certain Herr Hitler.
These people attempted to create a horizontal unity. They thought the
key to unity is to remove conflict and create “sameness.”
They thought conflict was created by (outer) differences.
The real cause of conflict
We now see the potential for taking a different approach. Conflict is
not created by outer differences or even differences in beliefs. Conflict
springs from a certain attitude, a certain approach to life. The basis
for this attitude is that a person sees himself as separated from his
source. Thus he sees no connection between himself and his brothers
and sisters.
The alternative is to help every human being establish a conscious connection
to his or her source. The first step is to recognize that you are a
spiritual being who is connected to the spiritual world. The next step
is to realize that all other human beings came from the same source.
Our outer differences are simply illusory appearances that are a product
of this world. Behind surface appearances, there is a fundamental unity
which leads to the recognition that we all came from the same source.
A true, vertical unity
We can now create a unity that is not horizontal, but vertical. Instead
of seeking to eradicate differences, we can transcend our differences.
One example of this approach is a healthy family. Your brother might
have certain characteristics that you would not tolerate in a stranger.
Yet because you feel a deeper connection to your brother, you not only
tolerate his antics but you actually grow to appreciate them as part
of his unique individuality. This then can be transferred to your larger
family, your spiritual family.
If we are to create true and lasting unity between religious people,
we must establish a vertical unity based on the recognition that we
all came from the same source.
The mind-energy connection
How can we establish this recognition of our source? Seeing is believing!
We must find a way to consciously experience a connection with the spiritual
realm. The answer is the radio of the mind.
By turning the dial on your radio receiver, you can tune in to what
you see as different radio stations. To the radio, they are simply energy
waves with different frequencies. Since the beginning of time, people
have had spiritual or mystical experiences. We might reason that the
human mind has the ability to act as a radio receiver. For most people,
the inner radio is tuned to one station only, namely what we call the
“real world.” Yet the fact remains that the mind does have
the ability to tune in to different frequencies, even to the higher
frequencies of the spiritual realm.
For many people the dial might be stuck on one setting, namely the material
world. However, if we are willing to make an effort, we can learn to
turn the dial of the mind and get a direct experience of our connection
to our spiritual source.
The human memory loss
What happened when we lost the conscious contact with our spiritual
source? Almost every religion is based on the idea that in the distant
past we humans lived in a higher estate. Then something happened that
caused us to fall or descend into a lower estate, and we have been stuck
here ever since. Because of this fall, we have a need for outside help
so that we can climb back to the state we once knew.
What if we assume that the Fall of man was a fall in our level of consciousness?
We descended into a lower state of consciousness, in which it is more
difficult for us to consciously experience a connection to our source.
Most of us have lost our conscious perception of the spiritual realm,
and some have even forgotten all about the spiritual realm and their
connection to the source.
In other words, the only real problem on this planet is that we all
suffer from some degree of memory loss. Therefore, we need help to overcome
this memory loss and climb back to a higher state of consciousness in
which we are, once again, connected to our spiritual source.
Reconnecting to our source
Why is it important to reconnect to our source? Human beings have always
had a deep longing for something. What if we are actually longing for
our source? If our source is in the spiritual world, it stands to reason
that nothing in this material world will satisfy our inner longing.
Therefore, we will never be at peace until we are reconnected to our
source.
As an illustration, let us consider an iceberg. We know that an iceberg
has only ten percent of its total mass above the surface of the water.
What if the material world is simply the tip of the iceberg in God’s
energy continuum? The material world is made of the same substance as
the spiritual world. It simply vibrates at lower levels, and thus it
is visible to our senses, while the other ninety percent are invisible
to our outer senses.
We humans always look for explanations and causes. What if we simply
cannot find such explanations by looking exclusively at the material
world? What if we can find a complete picture only by taking into account
the spiritual world? What if the material world is simply the effect
of causes taking place in the spiritual world?
What if your conscious mind is simply the tip of the iceberg of your
total being? There is more to you than meets the eye. You are a spiritual
being, and only a small part of your total consciousness is trapped
in this physical body. We might say that you have a higher part of your
being, a higher self. Is the key to happiness and peace of mind that
you reconnect with that higher self?
Let us move on to consider
what these ideas can teach us about The
Nature, Purpose and Practice of Religion.
