31.
Reaching for your highest potential
NOTE:
This is an excerpt from the book The
Least You Should Know About Life.
These ideas may seem somewhat abstract, so consider a more practical
example. Why are some people always lucky while other people always
seem to attract the worst possible outcome of any situation? Quantum
physics has proven that a subatomic particle does not exist as a physical
particle until a scientist makes an observation. Instead, there is a
number of virtual particles that exist in a realm of probability. When
the observation is made, one of these potential particles is “pulled”
out of the realm of probability and becomes a physical manifestation.
Now consider your own life. You often find yourself in situations in
which there are many potential outcomes. Almost any situation has more
than one possible outcome, ranging from relatively pleasant to relatively
unpleasant. What determines which of these potential outcomes becomes
an actual reality? For example, when you roll a die, there are six potential
outcomes. Yet before you actually roll the die, there is no manifest
outcome. The six possible outcomes exist in a different realm in which
they are only potentials.
What determines the outcome of rolling a die? Is it only chance? If
so, how come some people seem to be more lucky than others in everything
from rolling dice to actual life situations? How come some people seem
to stroll through life, going from one positive situation to the next,
while others always experience the worst possible outcome of any situation?
How come some people seem to attract unfortunate events or go from crisis
to crisis? Is this all luck, fate or the punishment of an unjust God?
Or is it possible that people’s minds, their attitudes and beliefs
about life, have an influence on whether the highest or the lowest potential
will manifest?
Imagine that you are going into a situation with ten potential outcomes.
The situation has not yet taken place, so the ten outcomes do not exist
in the physical realm. Instead, they exist in a higher realm, where
they are only potential outcomes. Yet what is this realm? Is it possible
that it is a realm of higher vibrations? Is it possible that this realm
is a level of the material universe and that it corresponds to one or
all of the levels in which your emotions, thoughts and sense of identity
reside? In other words, the higher levels of your mind are interacting
with the higher levels of the material universe itself.
The consequence is that the outcome of the situation is not determined
at the physical level. This is where you see the effect, namely that
one of the ten outcomes becomes a manifest circumstance. Yet before
the situation becomes “frozen in matter” it starts as a
much more fluid situation at the identity level. The energies in your
personal identity body will interact with the energies in the identity
bodies of the planet and other people involved in the situation.
When two energy waves meet, they can cancel out or reinforce each other.
Thus, the energy waves in your identity body can lower the probability
that some of the potential outcomes will manifest and increase the probability
that others will occur. For example, if you have a positive sense of
identity, such as “I am a very fortunate/lucky person,”
you might eliminate the most unfortunate outcomes. On the other hand
if you see yourself as an unlucky person, you may eliminate the best
possible outcome. The consequence is that at the identity level, you
might eliminate three of the ten outcomes and draw others closer to
you.
The situation then descends to the mental level, where your thoughts
will also interact with the greater situation. Again, you might eliminate
three potential outcomes depending on whether your thoughts are positive
or negative. The next level is the emotional, where your feelings will
likewise act as a filter. So by the time the situation reaches the physical
level, your identity, thoughts and feelings have canceled out nine of
the ten potentials and only one is left, which then will manifest as
a physical event. If the contents of your higher minds were positive,
you will experience the best possible outcome of the situation. If the
contents of your own mind were negative, you will attract the worst
possible scenario to you.
It now becomes clear that the contents of your mind have a direct impact
on your outer circumstances. Your physical circumstances are visible
effects of what is happening at the level of energy. And because energy
waves can increase or decrease each other, your thoughts will have a
direct impact on the hidden cause that creates the effect which manifests
in your physical situation. Thoughts are things. In fact, some spiritual
teachings say the entire universe is a thought in the mind of God, and
even science is pointing in this direction.
