A
book for anyone with a sense of humor and a (somewhat) open mind
Was Jesus a Zen Master?
Jesus often
made statements similar to the koans used by Zen Buddhists. For example,
“He who is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone.”
The purpose of a koan is to confound the intellect and get people to
think outside the box. The book The Jesus Koans by Kim Michaels
seeks to give people a new look at the inner teachings of Jesus. The
book’s idea is simple: imagine how Jesus might use koans to help
us face the spiritual challenges in today’s world. The result
is a collection of over 475 snappy koans, some hilarious, some profound
and some a bit provocative. Here are some samples from the book:
I
am with you always.
Which part of “always” don’t you understand?
Jesus
Thy
sins be forgiven thee.
Unfortunately, many people consider it a blank check.

Scientists
say randomness produced an orderly universe.
What’s the chance of that happening?
Jesus
Love
your neighbor as yourself.
So make sure you love yourself!

There’s
only one true religion.
It’s the religion of unconditional love. Forget about the rest!
